A walk up the Tomboy Road in Telluride

Red rocks on the Tomboy Road
Red rocks on the Tomboy Road

The Tomboy road is so simple and beautiful. If you are in need of some sun and exercise, breathtaking views, this will do perfectly. It is a never-ending pitch and the faster you go, the more you will get a great workout, that is if you can stop taking photos every few minutes! I particularly like it in the spring, when there are very few vehicles if any, passing you. This road eventually ends up in Ouray, CO. More on Ouray to come at some point. There are several jeepers and jeep touring operations that climb this pass but not in the spring as there is deep snow up there still and is not passable. At the beginning there are a few homes along the right side of the road and the farther up you go, there are a few private cabins that boast some of the world’s best views, no exageration.

May 15, 2015 Town of Mountain Village Building Project

I adore driving around the Town of Telluride and the Mountain Village to see what homes are being built.  Several projects start as soon as the ground is thawed enough for the crews to really get at it and while driving get the extra bonus of seeing the white capped mountain tops and green grasses as far as the eye can see. Most of the new homes in Telluride and Mountain Village are being built for the Owners’ personal use.  I am stunned by some of the more recent  homes-just spectacular and the architecture is so attractive. The  featured home above is located on Hood Park in Mountain Village and was built by Gerber Construction.  Being that the home is located up a substantial driveway it was hard for me to get  great photo that would do it justice without trespassing. The driveway is a bit of an engineering feat and could be almost considered a bridge of which the lengthly sides of it are made of very beautiful stone which looks to be the same stone nearly the whole home is made out of. To describe the stone, it is light in color and refined and stacked stone style in a creamy light grey.If I may say, it is so beautiful to me, it brought tears to my eyes.  It has spectacularly large windows and doors on both sides, several very large decks and backs up to a beautiful large open space meadow. It is modern but timeless and enduring like a perfect piece of art.IMG_0209

Spring Store Finds in Telluride-Overland

IMG_0112

All over town the streets are being, cleaned, flowers are blooming, the Aspens are bringing forth they leaves AND the stores are filling up with awesome things to add to your wardrobe. Everyone knows that there is a certain Mountain look here that is easy going but stylish and here are a few things I came across in Overland downtown. I don’t mind splurging when it is a piece that will go the distance. I am referring to pieces like a  jacket that lends a bit of warmth and is rustic yet handsome and timeless, a bag that can travel with you around the world and is roomy and has just that right amount of beauty and uniqueness or a pair of sandals that will only compliment any set of legs, are sturdy and comfortable yet stylish and beautiful for walking the streets anywhere in  Telluride and Mountain Village  and made by Kork-Ease!Take a look~

These boots are ridiculously cute and with a pair of faded jeans and a white tank top would be very chic, a bit western and you know…. the “I look fabulous and didn’t have to spend more than 5 minutes getting dressed “routine!

White tee shirt/jean shirt and vest anyone?  Looking James Dean and beautiful!

This is a man’s jacket that also would look stellar with just about anything.  I hear that Ralph Lauren stops in to the Telluride store occasionally to have a look at what Overland is producing. This jacket would look great going out to dinner, at film fest, strolling the streets etc.  I almost walked out with the bag.  It is very earthly and authentic looking and is roomy and has these succulent tassels hanging off on either side made of soft  dark leather.

I like the blues in this bag and can be worn cross chested

Both the Town of Telluride and the Town of Mountain Village have seen significant increase in building permits for new construction and remodels over the last few years.  I post photos  of some interesting projects. This one, above  is approximately 7000 square feet.  It is located on West Gregory Ave in town and is located next to the Telluride Historical Museum and was a major feat in terms of site prep, retaining wall and foundation.  I think it required on of the  the biggest crane I have ever seen in Telluride. At this moment, part of the exterior is being finished in a very beautiful wood and it is warm, rustic but refined and stunning.

This home is located on Arizona Avenue in the Moutnain Village as you first enter the Village.  It is an up to date design that fits in very well with the landscape and will have drop dead views from most any window as well as look at the tee box for hole #13.

This home is an older home that recently was purchased and now is being experiencing an entire interior  remodel. At the time of this pic it was being gutted.  It is located on Oak Street and is extremely charming and will be a very exciting project for the owners.

Town Pool expansion underway

The expansion will be a boon for those who love to swim laps, participate on the swim teams or simply enjoy a little cool water after enjoying a lovely day in the hot Colorado sun. It is a much larger pool than we have ever had and will have severe more lap lanes for public use and the changing rooms/ bath houses are themselves a work of art and beautifully done and much larger. The project is in part funded by the CO lottery amongst other funding venues.

Mountain Village approves a helipad for the new Medical Center

The design review board and the Town of Mountain Village Town Council recently approved a helipad for the planned Medical center. Recently the current director of the Telluride Medical Center gave extremely compelling reasons why we need it at a public hearing. I for one was in near tears, listening to her experiences with  several cases just in the last few months  where as she said several times  “minutes matter”. The land was donated by the Town of Mountain Village and is located on the lot behind the current Mountain Market and Town of Mountain Village offices. It will be ski in, ski out enabling ski patrol to bring people in need of medical attention directly in to the center. It will be state of the art and will offer extended services.  It is a very exciting and added benefit for our county and beyond. Voters still need to approve a bond issue, although it has been stated that there are some large donations to assist in the funding.  The future of the medical center will be in the hands of the voters in the end and will be a county wide bond issue.  Certainly there are several parties that still would like to to be located in the Town of Telluride and as in all small or large development becomes a heated debate with many opinions.

Clark’s Market is a new Telluride Pleasure!

Recently opened , is the new and very improved Clark’s  market grocery store. It will nearly double in size once the old part of the store is remodeled. It features a salad bar and will eventually offer a wider selection of nearly everything including an expanded gluten free selection, bakery, flower selection and offers a beautiful design.  My son says it is one of the nicest grocery stores he has ever seen. I have dragged him around the world already to many grocery stores, so he has some decent grocery store experience to rely on for a thirteen year old. The manager, formally from Whole Foods in Boulder understand the necessity and part of a community that a great store can be.  He says for his own family, they love to cook, even when traveling and feel it very important to be able to get great foods.

Even more exciting might be the find of an old safe under the floor of the original Clarks building. Given Telluride’s history, the contents could be nearly anything!
